d in Turkey to mean good luck. It protects you from bad things. Turkish people use a Nazar Boncuk to protect themselves, their loved ones and their belongings. In Turkey the Evil eye can be seen everywhere, houses, cars, buildings, especially when they are newly built or bought. For example at your house you should hang it at the entrance so whoever comes in they can see it first and feel protected. If you want to be protected then wear a Nazar Boncuk. Small ones can be pinned on your clothes, or your bag. You can find bracelets, earrings or necklaces of nazar boncuk. If one day, any reason the boncuk breaks, that means it has filled its duty of protecting the owner. This could be a problem, so the new one has to be bought right away. Belief in the evil eye is very old and it is a part of many nations.
The Story Behind the Nazar Boncugu (Evil Eye)
The stories about how the evil eye started is in the eastern part of Turkey, a woman gives birth to a beautiful and healthy baby girl. All her friends and neighbors come to see the baby. They shower the baby with compliments. They say especially how healthy and beautiful the baby is. After getting so much attention, weeks later the baby is found dead in her crib. Nobody could explain the reason behind the death of the baby. So, it is attributed to Nazar. That is why you will always see a small blue eye fixed to the new baby's clothes.
